Sarawak Culture Village

真的,里面的食物有点贵啊  @.@ we departed from Kuching around 9.15am and reach there around 10.15am ^^

4 位靓女团友,haha其实之前的post也有她们的踪影啦,they are my housemate ^^
lol i long time din type in chinese, my chinese is so bad nowadays TT feel more comfortable to type my blog in english, but i will mix both language together la haha

The grand finale performance during the cultural show. the show starts at 11.30am and end around 12.15pm. consists of a several session such as performance from orang bidayuh, iban, ulu and melayu.
I enjoyed the performance from the Orang Ulu the most as they got the shooting session hehe. Iban is nice with their tarian pahlawan and the beautiful+stunning attires. For the Melayu they performed the Zapin dance, haha i forgot whether i learned it before in the school or not. overall the performance was nice but a bit bored in the middle.
For the grand finale part, they invited some audiences to dance together on the stage for the tarian Zapin. They actually invited a lucky audience for the shooting session too ^^ if u wish to be the lucky one, you better sit in the middle front part in the hall so they can noticed you easily. Since Im so lazy to move so i just sat there quietly with my friends

After the show, we proceeded our journey to the first station: Rumah Orang Bidayuh. the bamboo bridge is something new for us, so we tried it out and took lots of photo. it wasnt as easy as we thought, we had to walk carefully on the bridge to prevent us from falling down. since we walked the bridge in the afternoon, the bamboos were so hot to be touched!! haha but it is such a nice experience to me, the last time i walked thru tis kind of bridge was in form 4 during the camp fire
now, say cheeezzzzz ^^

The bridge is quite long, if Im not wrong is about 100m. then we can enjoy the nice view of bidayuh house at the end of the bridge on a platform. I love tis place so much, it is such a unique place for us to discover the diversity of culture around us, besides malay chinese and indians

the decoration in the bidayuh house is just simple and nice, not very complicated but every angle of 充满了文化的气息。 it is made of bamboo ( arr i think la) and woods, although it looks like a closed area but in fact the ventilation in the house is quite ok ^^ since it is few meters above the ground

haha don tell ppl we do not follow the rules!! although it was written there as DO NOT TOUCH, but our curiosity cant stop us from playing with it. the instruments was inside another rumah bidayuh just a few meters away from the small bidayuh house. too bad they do not provide the service for us to take photo with traditional clothes like wat i had tried in yunnan. so we just enjoyed it with the traditional musical instruments around ^^

saw something funny here. 弹弓!! nice to see it inside the house, so i just shoot ppl tat i want. who is he?? hehe no need mention so much. the house consists of a lot of things, beside musical instruments they have the 捕猎工具,膜拜仪式圣物 (lots of skull skeletons) and 面具。this teach us how to respect their religion, believe and culture and how they preserve their culture from distinct. well as you know, chinese culture had changed alot since 1950s, it is nice to see the other ethnics still preserve their tradition from ancestors well

the real face of the bidayuh house. isnt it nice?? it is round in shape,

After we visited the bidayuh house, we moved on to our next destination===>> the location for Sarawak Rainforest Musical Theater ^^ we missed the international musical theater, so we just syok sendiri here for fun. The place is very big and nature, well i believe everyone was immersed themselves happily in such a nice environment that time ^^

Then, wat is next?? HUNGRY is waiting for us!! the menu of the cafe is quite expensive inside, so Joyce's mummy just prepare some food for us~ the famous kolomee in Kuching. I'm not sure whether outside food is allowed or not, but we kept it inside the bag. Then we dined in the tea garden corner near the theater, The tea garden got a small fountain there which made the atmosphere very smooth and enjoyable, it reminded me of the cafe in Eden Garden in Suan Pheung before ( will update it if i got time, such a nice place to share with )

Here is the location for the theater, can you feel the music of the nature here? well you have to feel it urself live!! although there don have any concert now, but the birds give u a free concert with the wind of rainforest ^^

After we eat well and rest well, we went to the nearest Iban Long house. There are total of 7/8 different ethnics of houses if im not wrong. but the Penan house was deserted, so i din took much picture with it. Next Im going to share about the iban long house ^^ which is one of the attraction in the village.
FYI, Iban is one of the biggest ethnics in Sarawak, and they live in the long house together. most of the Iban ppl lived in the poor area, where they have lack of electricity and water supply. that is why there is always crocodile attack towards Iban ppl. But their long house is special enuf.

Different from Bidayuh the round house, the Iban house is almost rectangular in shape. while the activitiy centre of Iban long house is the corridor of the longhouse, where they usually welcome the visitor and have their celebration. it is really wide and big enuf that can fit almost 100 ppl at one time. and they have a stage with musical instruments ^^
Nicely decorated corridor/the activity hall in the Iban Longhouse =) ** there are public toilets in the longhouse.

Impressed with Iban longhouse, we went to Orang Ulu Long house. Sorry for my poor cultural knowledge, but i really don have much idea about the difference of orang ulu and orang Iban, they looked alike except their 图腾。
haha the orang ulu longhouse have homestay service, but it was hot enuf inside!! >< outside at the corridor you can enjoy the whole view of the cultural village and windy enuf. along the corridor there were a lot of new things to see and play ^^

the view of the corridor of the Rumah Orang Ulu

one thing different from the longhouse of orang ulu and orang iban is orang ulu ukir their 图腾or we can said tattoo on the tiang of the house. ( well my english is quite poor at the same time ==) at least 2 storey high buildings, one of the highest building in the village i can said.

Then we continued with our walk walk and talk talk session. the hot sun was bad enuf >< forgot to apply for the sunblock lotion, and the result is.... im totally black and red after i went to cultural village TT remember to bring umbrella and sunglasses if have arrr

And next, we reach to a very unique Bungalow in the village~ the Melanau house ^^ 3 storeys bungalow, do you want to have it?? haha if Im not mistaken, based on my poor geography knowledge, orang Melanau stay along the riverside and seaside and most of them works as a fisherman. such a nice picture, isnt it??
Inside the house, there is some introduction of the culture of Orang Melanau, and some handcraft arts made by the ppl. Appreciate the beauty of the scene until im not willing to move XD

there is a batik and tattoo store opposite the Melanau house, the Batik products are quite expensive, but the tattoo i think is at quite reasonable price. I had my temporary borneo style tattoo on my forearm for RM10, but too bad it only lasted for one day TT coz i went for swimming in the evening time and forgot to protect it, so it fades easily.
The tattoo was based on Borneo style, and there was no sample provided as the sifu drew it spontaneously based on his experience. very nice and i love it a lot, made me look a bit gangster? hahahha

The second last station we reach to Rumah Melayu. The last station will be Rumah Cina, erm i wont explain much for the rumah Cina as i think it is the modified version of Cina house during 1970s, unlike the penang style 四合院, which is more spacious and chinese style.
In the Malay house, hehe almost the same malay house as we saw before la. Inside got congkak, and my frens and me played for around 30 mins with it. Take a break and a rest before continued our journey ^^

Forgot to upload the tea garden photos just now, here is the tea garden photos with a beautiful fountain. you can have your drink and meal here, as chairs and tables were provided. the owner of the tea garden was very helpful too ^^

Me and my fren spent RM20 for 2 tattoos on our forearm, and show off a while haha.

After 4 hours of visiting, finally we walked back to the entrance+exit and prepare to leave the village. nice place to recommend, but maintenance need to be upgraded as some of the houses are not in a very good condition already, especially the penan house and the shooting area. Overall rated 7/10 ^^

Sarawak Cultural Village wasnt our last destination of the day, after the visit we went to the central park to buy our dinner and junk food, as we book a night stay in the Damai Beach Resort, one of the most beautiful resort in Santubong!! Since the food inside was so expensive ( RM21 for a plate of kolomee =_=!!!) so we bought a lot of maggie mee in the seven eleven in the central park haha.
then we left our blue wira in the carpark for overnight, and walked to the damai beach resort via the wooden bridge which connecting the central park and the resort. Will post about Damai Beach Resort and Damai Beach tomoro!!

**Here is some tips for Sarawak Cultural Village
  1. Remember to bring student card to get the rate of RM15, if not RM60 is too expensive for it.
  2. If possible, bring your own food and drinks there if you were in a budget tour
  3. There are 2 shows in a day for the village, 11.30am and 3.30pm. so plan your time wisely if you wish to enjoy the show. pick a nice seat will ensure a nice and enjoyable performance
  4.  If you don wish to drive so far to Santubong, there is van service to and fro from Kuching which cost RM20 per person. You can get the service from Hotel Magerita in the waterfront Kuching. Make sure you make your early booking first
  5. Normally it takes around 2-3 hours to walk in the village, excluded the 45 minutes show. After the visit in the village can have a nice walk on the Damai Beach that you shouldn't miss out
