TourDirections Penang is going to launch their hawker food page starting from Char Kuey Teow, so they listed out a few famous char kuey teow stalls in Penang for reference. As you know ( You MUST know!!) that Penang Char Kuey Teow is the no.1 ranking of "must try Penang Food" among the others, such as Hokkien Mee, laksa, wan tan mee, nasi kandar etc. There are so many stalls of Char Kuey Teow, which one is the recommended one?

As a local, we don really have much preference, becoz for us, Penang Char Kuey Teow is a label for Penang so actually we can have a delicious one every where in any corner of Penang. Honestly, if the char kuey teow is ODD or not tasty, it wont survive in such a big competition in Penang. Anyway, there is a list from TourDirections Penang to ease the tourist for food hunt when in Penang.

  • Lorong Selamat Char Kuey Teow
  • Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow (Jalan Dato Keramat)
  • Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow (Jalan Chor Sin Kheng)
  • Wa Hong Cafe Char Kuey Teow (Kampung Jawa)
  • Siam Road Char Kuey Teow
  • Bukit Mertajam Duck Egg Char Kuey Teow
  • Kimberley Street Char Kuey Teow
  • Jalan Johor Hawker Centre Char Kuey Teow
  • Padang Brown Char Kuey Teow
  • Sin Wah Char Kuey Teow (Pulau Tikus Market)
  • Kheng Pin Café Char Kuey Teow (Penang Road)
  • Ali Char Kuey Teow Basah (Bukit Mertajam)
So during my last holiday, I tried my first " char kuey teow" food hunt session. LOL its sounds so funny for a food hunt of char kuey teow as a penang lang for 22 years haha. The first station: Siam Road Char Kuey Teow as recommended by most of the people. Siam Road CKT ( Char Kuey Teow) is using charcoal instead of gas to cook for the char kuey teow, which makes it so famous becoz it locks all the traditional taste of char kuey teow in a small plate.

Siam Road CKT is actually a roadside stall. So everyone will wait for the food at the coffee shop at the Siam Road while waiting for 3pm. Oh yeah, Siam Road CKT started at 3pm onwards until sold out, so don come too early yo hehe. it was only 2.45pm, and it was full house adi in the coffee shop @..@

while waiting for the CKT, we ordered a bowl of  dou fu hua , beancurd jelly which costs us RM2.50, it is nice to have something refreshing in this bloody hot day haha.

The dou fu hua was very smooth and the black sugar was not too sweet for us. But I prefer the " lao ban dou fu hua " that I had in Singapore before.

The outlook of the coffee shop. Plz noted that the parking lots are so limited. We had a hard time to search for a parking space =..=  it located between the intersection of Jalan Anson and Siam Road.

Dang Dang Dang, the famous uncle arrived at his usual spot for his business sharp at 3pm. He was so nice when I asked his permission to take photo haha. And before he arrived, there was a long queue adi. So please be patient for a plate of CKT, if you were late, you might need to wait for up to 30 minutes for the char kuey teow. worth it? depends on own preference.

Char Kuey Teow cooked by charcoal as the main fire source. Saliva are drooling again~ Ingredients of the char kuey teow? kuey teow, tauge, shrimp, Chinese sausage la chang ( pork). Eggs are on self preference. I ordered 1 plate with eggs and 1 without eggs.

The landmark of the Siam Road Char Kuey Teow. Uncle you are so famous for that lo haha.
Cooking char kuey teow is not easy at all, uncle did not stop his hand at all from the moment he started the business. salute !

The price for the char kuey teow~ all in RM
translation: big portion RM5.50, with eggs RM4.50 ( small) , small portion without eggs RM3.70
for girls, a small portion is enough. If you wish to have a truly original char kuey teow, small portion without eggs is a better choice.

Deng Deng Deng, the delicious Char Kuey Teow came to me after 20 minutes of waiting ( such a horrible queue). But for me it was worth becoz it is one of the most famous Char Kuey Teow stalls in Penang. the smell of the CKT was not so impressive, but it really made our taste buds felt "alive" when we put it into our mouth. The portion is just nice for a person.

what is so special about this char kuey teow? something that you should not miss in Penang.
Penang is the best spot to fill your tummy with all kinds of delicious food at a cheap price. This is why ppl entitled Penang as " the heaven of food".
*Better than Serdang, Im starving here T..T  haha. cant wait to go back Penang again.
Goodbye ^^

So here is it, Im back again~ wish to write a short post about my current posting, which is an interesting one>> Geriatric posting. In layman term, elderly health. Before I start, I wish to share a video here which my Doctor shared to us yesterday in the lecture. Very meaningful lesson to everyone from this 3 minutes video

People said minor posting is actually a honeymoon phase during clinical years. Well personally I don feel "honeymoon" at all, as I had to wake up at 5.30am for 3 consecutive days to attend ward round in HKL until 7pm in the evening, totally exhausted. Luckily I finished my session in HKL and going to have my session in Hospital Serdang for next week. The nightmare ends? nope, there is another ahead during family medicine, which means I had to wake up at 5.30am again and repeat the same cycles in various health clinics.

Back to topic, is Geriatric fun? yes it is ( besides the torturing schedule). We spent time together with the elderly ( 65 years old and above), clerking them, monitoring their ability to handle daily activities and etc. Clerking an elderly is totally different from a young adult ( maybe worse for paed but I haven gone thru yet). Some of the elderly are having delirium ( confusion) or worse, dementia, which they could not obey to command and give irrelevant answer to questions. Hence, lots of patience is required to take care of them.

From geriatric, we can see how our community treat the elderly. FYI, the elderly proportion in Malaysia population is increasing drastically, which is 7.5% of total population in 2010. Some of the elderly have good care from the family, but most of them were neglected and isolated from the society. In the hospital, we can see how stress a family member as a caregiver to a sick elderly becoz they had to accept all the behaviours of him/her, and it is really heartbreaking to witness the love one to suffer especially from physical disability and cognitive impairment. I saw a lady once broke down into tears when she talked to us, as her mom had dementia and failed to recognise her.

Those people who still can receive care and attention from family members are the blissful one. In the video above, although the old man was living together with his daughter, but he received stigma from his daughter-in-law and isolated from the dinner because he had incontinence and created "troubles" to the couple. This is still consider as the better one, I had seen some cases which is worse than this, the family just abandoned the old man/woman in the hospital, and he/she had to be sent to nursing home after discharge as no one wish to take care of them.

Think about it people, this is a normal ageing process, everyone will get old someday, so why you treat ur parents like tis? The grandma I met in the hospital ( not my biological grandma, she passed away ages ago) had many children but non of them visited her during her admission. As a result, we, the "trouble maker" in the ward ( describe by some nurses LOL) were her best companion during the day. Not only her, but several of them in the wards. They grow old, they had problem in handling their daily life due to osteoarthritis, vision problem, tremor and fall easily. Falling is a big issues in geriatric, it is not easy to handle a hip fracture in elderly. Infection, immobility, bed sore, depression, is a cascade following the complication.

Look, life is actually a recycling process. when we are young and small, we cry to get attention so our parents can take care of our need. We cant control our bowel and urination, that is y we need pampers. Then we grow and start to learn how to walk, with multiple falls. Still, we need someone to feed us for food. Then our parents teach us how to dress ourselves slowly. Then we learn to recognise words and speak. Then we go to school, makes frens, know how to socialise, make up ourselves in our best look, earn money, get married with the love one. We had all of this from our parents.

When we are strong enough to be independent, our parents are ageing and start to depend on us. They start to have confusion, forgetful. Then slowly suffer from several disease, they don look good anymore. Then start to have clumsy and unsteady walk, and fall. Please aware that one fall to elderly maybe FATAL enough. When they had pain, they refused to walk. Then they start to have isolation from the community, depression, and all this lead to delirium or worse, dementia. When either of this come, they start to behave like a child. they cant feed themselves, cant button their clothes, cant bath themselves. Slowly, they cant have normal speech intonation, they cant control their bowel and urination, which we call as incontinence. They cant express their feeling in a correct way, they start to feel frustrated with all the bad temper. In the late stage, they can only cry and shout to get our attention, and bedridden.

Some of the people gives up in the process to take care of the elderly due to severe stress, and some of the care giver commit suicide. Well I cant guarantee that I wont do the same, but I will make sure my parents get my attention all the time and always in a healthy condition. At least, I wont dump my parents just like that. * In fact I think my parents will dump me when they retired =..=.  if you think your parents are annoying, who is the one annoying the parents when he/she are small? who is the one crying all the time in the night? No one but us. All of us go through the same process, did our parents complain about that? yes they do. But do they give up on us? Nope they never. and this is the reason y we can enjoy our life here now. They feed up and raise us up with patience and love.

I believe that all of us like to ask our parents nonsense questions repeatedly when we were small, and the favorite question will be "Mom/Dad, how do I come to this world". Don laugh, I know you got the similar favorite answer like me: " I pick u up from the rubbish site". When they old, they start to be forgetful. yeah this is so irritating, me too at the same time. this is actually a normal process, our brain start to retire when we stop using it. For dementia patients, they can only remember things decades ago, and forget the recent event. Some of them, which I met one today, forget that the lady who sat in front of her is her own daughter. So please give more patience when they start to ask " who are you" repeatedly. this is really something heartbreaking.

From geriatric, we can know the importance of family relationship. A strong faith among the family members to take care of the elderly gives a big support to the recovery of the illness of the old people. Instead of one caregiver, everyone in the family should take turn to take care of the old one, so everyone can get enough rest and improve the relationship together. Communication with the doctors is very important to have a good plan for the old one in terms of healthy recovery. Treat your old one in the family sincerely.

Luckily my grandpa still very healthy now and independent. I wont say he is physically fit becoz he was so reluctant to move around due to knee pain. Lazy grandpa!! XDD

Lastly, thanks to Dr Rizar, Dr Yau, Dr Alan and Prof Nathan for the teaching and guidance during this posting. Especially to Dr Alan as my group supervisor in this posting. We learn about nutrition, Barthel scoring, elderly care and a lot more during the posting. This is just a 3 weeks posting, but we learnt a lot of moral values than knowledge during this period of time. Geriatric is an interesting posting anyway and I really enjoy it. Next rotation~ Family Medicine.
What is the best way to visit Putrajaya in a short time by taking public transport? Forget about taxi, lets take the RM1 city bus tour in Putrajaya!

I knew this activities since a long time ago but I just have no time for it before, so today since Im free in the morning, I decided to get a solo trip to Putrajaya by taking the RM1 Bus City Tour at Putrajaya. For me it is very convenient and it is the best thing to visit Putrajaya becoz they had an excellent and awesome tour guide in the bus~ Pak Cik Halim, a retired yet energetic old man. I had a very good moment with the tour, and know some new frens from Australia ( my all time dreamland!!) and Taiwan.

How to get the bus trip? It is a 2 hour bus trip, there is 2 session, morning 11am and the evening 3pm at Putrajaya Sentral. If you are from KL, just take KLIA Transit to reach to Putrajaya and head to the information counter for registration. And yes, it costs only RM1 per person for 2 hours guided tour. Please take note that this bus trip is only available on Saturday and Sunday only.

Sharp at 11am, we hopped on the bus and start our city tour~ We passed by the Seri Wawasan Bridge, which we should have the opportunity to go down and take picture, but since it was raining we cant do it ><

The building for Ministry of Finance Malaysia. A different feeling in a rainy day

Here we reached our first station of the day: Putra Mosque ( more famous to be known as Pink Mosque) in Persint 1. There is 2 big mosques in Putrajaya.

The pink pink Putra Mosque. Free entrance from 9am to 5pm daily. What is so special about a pink mosque? well 80% of it is on the water than the land. Some sort of floating mosque? hehe
A kind reminder:  Please respect the Muslim practice during the visit to the mosque, and keep in silence as it is a place for prayer.

For girls, we need to get a robe before we entered the mosque, rent it for free at the counter. Polite attire is encourage during the visit ( means not short pants and sleeveless top)

The lamp inside the hall of the mosque~ found myself irresistible to beautiful lamp decoration

Dome of the mosque~ the unique feature for an Islamic building. Found that Islamic design is actually quite beautiful here.

The interior view of the hall of the mosque~ this is the first time I entered the hall of a mosque, although I stay in Malaysia for ages =..=. Tall, spacious, impressive~ My beautiful impression to this mosque.

Took a pic with the dome of the mosque. My first time to wear a robe~ we need to cover our hair to toes during the visit of the mosque, as a respect.

The gate of the mosque. It is free of charge for visit, but do take note that non-Muslims may not enter the mosque building itself when they are doing prayer.

Next station: Perdana Putra. The landmark for Putrajaya~ the gargantuan complex of Prime Minister office. not sure is it still available for entrance or not.

Perdana Putra~
Here I really impressed with the far-sight of Tun Dr Mahatir who plan this intelligent garden city~

Putra Mosque from the Dataran Putra.

Here I am again~ actually I had no idea how many times I have been to here~ since im the only local in the bus besides Pak Cik Halim and the driver, I shall act like Im a visitor too haha

Next station: Seri Putra~ the official residence of Prime Minister of Malaysia. Not open to public recently.
Mr.Obama just had his lunch last month here according to Pak Cik Halim haha.
outlook of Seri Perdana~

The garden in front of the Seri Perdana~
If you are observant enough, you will notice that the lampposts are different for each different street~ that makes Putrajaya a bit unique than others ^^

Our transport of the day~ just find " SEWA KHAS" on the digital board of the bus will do.
well they will do a headcount everytime before departure, so we no need to worry to be left out during the trip. The bus is air-conditioned and comfortable.

we also went to Istana Melawati but too bad we din get down to take photos~ it is a beautiful golden palace haha. Our king ( Yang di-Pertuan Agong)  did not live there, He lives in the palace in KL near Duta. If you have interest, maybe you can read some about our royal family in Malaysia coz it is different from other countries ^^

Then we had a short break when the bus drove into the main street, city centre of Putrajaya.

selfie on the street~ should have better photo quality if it was a sunny day~ Putrajaya looks the best in hot sunny day with the awesome blue sky and white clouds~

have a hot or cold drinks over the 1 Malaysia mini mart~ some of the foreigners were curious with the "1", is it means that we want to be no.1? nope, it means that Malaysians should be united as one so we can make our beloved Malaysia a better one.

After a short break, we went to the final destination of the day~ Putrajaya International Convention Centre ( PICC), dominantly located at the end of Putrajaya main street. from PICC we can have the best view of Putrajaya City at the highest point. Internet describe PICC looks like an UFO, but for local we think that it looks like a tortoise than an UFO, haha XDD

The breathtaking view from the top of PICC~ notice the Perdana Putra with the green dome? ya PICC and Perdana Putra is in a line with the Putrajaya main street. Maybe it is some sort of Feng Shui believe but I have no idea about it.

A closer look of the Seri Gemilang Bridge~ The most beautiful bridge in the day time in Putrajaya. ( night time the no.1 is Seri Wawasan Bridge for the light show sorry Seri Gemilang).
Although I love hot sunny day for a better photo quality, but the windy day give a comfortable feeling to everyone during the trip.
And we were so lucky enough to have a free watch for aircraft performance when we were in PICC. Don have the photos coz my camera failed to catch the beautiful moment. I think there is a happening in Putrajaya that time.

the overall look of Seri Gemilang Bridge during my last visit to Putrajaya. so now you agree that big hot sunny day is the best time to have photo shooting in Putrajaya right? haha

The PICC. I don get the chance to PICC during the last visit months ago as they were having convention that time. So do check with the schedule ya.

Finally, after 2 and a half hour bus trip, we get back to the origin Putrajaya Sentral. selfie with Pak Cik Abdul Halim who is a excellent tour guide to this trip ^^ Thank you so much Pak Cik haha.
For any inquires can contact Captain Abdul Halim Hamzah at 03-8733 7344 or 017-880 3395, or visit the webpage of Perbadanan Putrajaya / Tourism Malaysia.
* please note that the bus tour is mainly in English, chinese translation service is not provided

Putrajaya, I will visit you again, becoz Im not satisfied with the photos without my beloved blue sky and white clouds haha. Besides bus tour, there is also bike tour available in the parks in Putrajaya, such as Taman Wetland and Taman Botanic. Highly recommend to have a night bike tour at the night becoz Putrajaya wont disappoint you ^^

May take a cruise at Tasik Putrajaya too with RM30/person.  Putrajaya lake is an artificial lake. for me this city is young and beautiful, but at the same time as it lost the natural beauty of a city that it should have. well everything have both sides, don care so much and just have fun ^^

Soft Soya

Deng Deng Deng

Fragrance Hotel.

Mercury Backpacker Hostel

Lavender street.

check in check out 的过程还蛮顺利的。
